SEATTLE — Sept. 22, 2026 — Fund for Science and Technology (FFST) today announced that Jane Dietze will join the organization as its inaugural chief investment officer, effective January 4, 2027. Dietze will lead the foundation’s investment strategy, overseeing stewardship of its assets in support of FFST’s mission and impact objectives addressing some of the world’s greatest and most urgent challenges.
Dietze joins FFST from Brown University, where she has served as vice president and chief investment officer since 2018. During her tenure, she oversaw one of the nation’s largest and most respected university endowments, helping guide the institution through a period of significant market volatility while maintaining a long-term investment approach focused on preserving and growing resources for future generations. She will finish the calendar year at Brown before transitioning to her new role at FFST.
"Jane brings exceptional investment expertise, deep experience leading sophisticated institutional portfolios, and a thoughtful approach to stewardship,” said Nancy Peretsman, managing director at Allen & Co., member of the FFST’s board of directors, and head of the foundation’s investment committee. “Jane’s leadership will help ensure that the foundation’s resources continue to support its mission and impact for generations to come.”
Dietze has more than two decades of experience across endowment management, investment leadership, and philanthropy. Before becoming chief investment officer at Brown, she served in senior investment leadership roles at the university and previously held positions in investment management at Bowdoin College, as well as investment firms including Fortress Investment Group and Columbia Capital.
Her appointment follows a national search reflecting the foundation’s commitment to long-term stewardship, disciplined investing, and responsible management of the assets entrusted to it by the Estate of Paul G. Allen, renowned philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder.
“I am honored and excited to join Fund for Science and Technology,” said Jane Dietze. “Most immediately, I’m looking forward to working with the board and colleagues to build a world-class team and portfolio, all in support of FFST’s mission – especially important in this moment – to advance bioscience, strengthen the environment, and harness AI for public good.”
Investing for Long-Term Impact
FFST’s investment program, which launched with $3.1 billion last year, plays a critical role in sustaining the new foundation’s work by generating the long-term financial resources that support grantmaking across the organization’s funding priorities. As chief investment officer, Dietze will work closely with foundation leaders and its board of directors to guide investment strategy and ensure that the portfolio remains aligned with the foundation’s objectives and values.
Her experience leading complex institutional portfolios, cultivating relationships with investment managers, and navigating evolving market environments positions her to help FFST continue building on its strong foundation of financial stewardship.
